APPLICATIONS UNTIL 20 MAY >> APPLICATION FORM
In the 7th edition of the Summer School — In Practice, choreographer Ali Chahrour and Syrian singer, composer and improviser Lynn Adib propose a research centred on body and sound, considering the body as a carrier of memories, history and daily life, traversed by multiple layers of personal and collective experiences. These layers are revealed in the singular quality of each participant’s movement.
Sonic Bodies — Movement, sound and voice as an extension of the body focuses on the exploration of the quality of movement and its specificity in each body. Through exercises of presence in space and time, dance is approached not only as movement, but as a practice of listening to our own body and to others.
Alongside movement, we explore sound and voice as an extension of the body and as a medium of expression. Grief is often reflected physically, but also through breath, vibration, silence, trembling and resonance of the voice. We will work with vocal improvisation, listening exercises and collective sound practices where the voice becomes movement and movement becomes sound. The voice is approached beyond language, allowing participants to express what words sometimes cannot hold, creating a shared space of presence and emotional resonance.
We focus on the stages of grief, where words fail and the body and the vibration of sound take over. Considering grief as a celebration of life and a transformation of the body’s presence in relation to the absent one.
A ritual of recalling and awakening our senses where body and voice become one tool.
The singing body and the dancing voice.
This workshop includes tools to suspend time and embrace slowness, discovering new details and nuances in the body that we tend to skip in the rhythm of daily life.
Exercises to rediscover time and space.

Born in Beirut, choreographer Ali Chahrour crafts a gestural language beyond Western codes that reflects the depth, faith, and history of his culture. His trilogies explore themes such as death, love, and now fear. Blending poetry, movement, and raw emotion, he weaves a vivid tapestry of human connections.
Lynn Adib is a Syrian singer, composer, and improviser whose music weaves together jazz, Arabic traditions, and sacred forms. Born in Damascus, she began singing in the Joy Choir of Notre-Dame-de-Damas before studying at the conservatory and continuing in Paris. She is celebrated for her fluid movement between maqâm, Byzantine chant, and jazz improvisation.
Her discography includes Youmma (2018), Nearness (2022) with Marc Buronfosse, and Ma Li Beit (2024) with Bedouin Burger. Lynn collaborates with a wide range of artists, including Robinson Khoury and Bojan Z, bringing a distinct presence as she crosses musical and cultural boundaries. She is currently working on a new album due in 2026.
